OrgPublisher V21.x Photo setup
Applicable Product:
- OrgPublisher
Applicable Release:
- V21 and later
Summary:
There are two components when it comes to adding photos to your chart:
1. The photo files themselves, usually in .jpg form, in a folder that is accessible by everyone who will be viewing the chart. We recommend that you place these photo files in an image folder on the same server as OrgPublisher.
2. The photo filenames must be brought in via your data feed, Field 15, Photo.
Once you have those two components, use a http:// path as your 'Photo Base Path' to your photos. A http/https path is recommended over UNC paths as it ensures everyone can see the photos.
If you would rather place the photo base path and image file name within the data feed (field 15), then it is not necessary to list the Photo Base Path within the application.
As for the location of Images folder, it is recommended that the image folder be on the same server as the OrgPublisher install due to performance and permissions issues.
If your Image folder is on another server, then you will the URL would reference that server:
http://[nonOrgpubserver]/images
Your IT Team would have to make sure that permissions are set appropriately.
A couple of ideas would be:
1. The app pool's identity may have to be changed to a service account and that service account will have to be added to the photo folder's NTFS permissions list.
2. You could also try creating a virtual directory on the web server that hosts the chart. The virtual directory would point to the other server that houses the photos. Then in OrgPublisher, you would use the virtual directory path.
You will have to work with your internal IT Team, a Local Admin account will not work, you will have to have a Domain or a built-in network account with the proper permission. You will need to work with your team internally to identify the proper credentials to use.
Photos:
It is recommended that all photos be roughly the same size and there are no missing photos, bad photo names, etc. in the data. Any resizing of images will need to be done outside of the OrgPublisher application, and while we do not have a recommended size for photos, many software programs produce thumbnails that work well (size in pixels is 96 x 72).
OrgPublisher uses the data in Field 15 to match photos with employee records. You can use any file name you desire as long as the actual photo name and the data in Field 15 match. Please make sure the file extension (.jpg, .png, etc.) is part of the data.
