How to Create A What-If-Planning Chart
Applicable Product:
- OrgPublisher
Applicable Release:
- V21 and later
Summary:
PeopleFluent OrgPublisher's What-if Planning allows users with the appropriate permissions to create new reporting or succession relationship charts and modify or delete existing planning charts. End users, selected individuals, or planners can create reporting and succession relationship charts.
Users with the appropriate permissions can enable What-if Planning in the OrgPublisher Administration web app by setting a baseline for succession and reporting relationship charts from a view in a secured chart. The baseline creates a snapshot of a chart's custom fields, formatting, and configuration in the Administration web app. When the user creates a new planning chart, the baseline is combined with a snapshot of the chart's data.
Prerequisites
What-If-Planning in PeopleFluent OrgPublisher charts requires the following:
- PostgreSQL
- A secured chart, published.
- OrgPublisher Field 9, Job ID.
- If succession planning, Field 17, Position ID.
- Planning Chart views and Successor chart views with visible successor position types.
- Groups have been created for Planning Admin permissions.
PostgreSQL:
PostgreSQL must also be installed and set up. In the OrgPublisher Configuration tool, you will also have to enable the database connection:
A secured chart, published:
For the What-If Planning feature to be available, the chart must exist in a secured charting web app - you must use either Standard, Windows Authentication, or Reverse Proxy security. In the following example, the charting web app is set up to use "Standard" security:
OrgPublisher Field 9, Job ID:
A data source that has Job ID (field 9) populated:
For a planning chart to work properly, the data source your chart uses must have field 9 populated.
If succession planning, Field 17, Position ID.
OrgPublisher uses this field for OrgPublisher What-If-Planning and Succession to track and report movement.
Planning Chart views and Successor chart views with visible successor position types:
To create a view for planning purposes, design your view so that it shows the information that you require to do planning. NOTE: To add/modify information in your fields, they must be added to the Profile View.
For details on how to create a view, bring up the online help in OrgPublisherAdministration and search for "Add a view".

Groups have been created for Plan Admin permissions:
Create groups for Planners in your chart. There can be two types of planners: one that can do planning for the entire chart and another that can only do planning within their own span of control. For example, someone in HR may be able to do planning for the entire chart while managers can only do planning for people that report up to them. As such, if you have these 2 types of planners, you will need to create 2 groups. For steps on creating a group, bring up the online help in OrgPublisherAdministration and search for "Add a group".
Setting your Baseline:
Once you have your pre-requisites then you can set your Baseline:
Charts that are created in a secured charting web app will have the option to set a baseline in the "What If Planning" tab:
When setting a baseline, you will need to:
Once you have set a baseline, and you view the chart, planners will see the "What-if Planning" menu:
Note: If they do not see the menu, review the groups you created to ensure that the correct group of people is displayed in your planner group. Also, you have to be logged in as a planner of the specified group.
