Modify Ad Hoc Reports with no Custom File vs with Custom File

This article explains how to modify Ad Hoc Reports that do not have a Custom File vs reports that do

 

Details:

If the Ad Hoc Reports needs to be modified, start by clicking on the "Edit" button under the Ad Hoc Report list.  If the Ad Hoc Report does not have a custom file, all the sections will be available and selectable. 

 

 

This means you will be able to edit the columns through the "Set Columns" and add any Grouping to the Ad Hoc Report as needed.  However, once the Ad Hoc Report has a Custom File, only Additional Filtering can be modified. 

 

 

Therefore, if changes need to be made again because new columns are needed, a new Ad Hoc Report has to be recreated.  The recommended approach is to create a Ad Hoc Report template before applying the custom file.  Add the wording "_Template" to indicate this is a template.  Change the visibililty of the report to "Private" if needed.  Then when it is necessary to create a new template , add/remove the columns from the grid and save to a new report, then you can apply the changes to the Ad Hoc Report again.
