How to Capture Chart View and Report View
Applicable Product:
- OrgPublisher
Applicable Release:
- V21 and later
Summary:
This article demonstrates how to use the Capture View feature of your chart and Report exporting.
Chart users can save captured views of charts and export them as searchable single- and multi-page reports. The Capture This View, Export Report, and Export to PDF buttons are enabled by default. Administration web app users with the appropriate permissions can configure the display of these buttons on the Toolbar. The report and captured view data is saved on the Administration web app's server in the chart's location defined in the Charting web app.
Unsecured Charts: On unsecured charts, users can name a folder where captured views and reports are saved and shared data with other users. When an unsecured chart user specifies a folder, a directory with that name is created within the chart's < publish location>\Data directory using the following format: <publish location>\Data\Unsecure\< folder name from user>. For example, a user folder called "Q4 Planning" will be saved in this directory path: <publish location>\Data\Unsecure\Q4 Planning
Note: Windows is a case-insensitive operating system, therefore it will ignore differences in capitalization of file and directory names. For example, folders created by different users for "Q4 Planning," "q4 Planning," and "Q4 planning" will all be stored in the same directory.
Secured Charts: On secured charts, users save their reports and captured views to a folder named for their User ID and cannot share this data with other users. On the server, the directory is named using each user's User ID, and the directory structure will be: <publish location>\Data\Secure\< User ID>
The Capture view allows you to capture a certain state of your chart, for example, if you expand 3 levels for person A, 2 levels for person B, and 3 levels for person C and you want to send a PDF of that 'state' you would use the Capture view for that. You can then immediately create a PDF at that point or save it for later to be combined with other 'captured' views and export that report.
1. First users can build out their own folder by clicking on the "Capture this View" icon
2. Next select one of the two options depending on how you want to export a report in single or multipage.
3. Display window will show the captured views and your reports Folder.
4. After you have captured your views and are ready to generate a report using them, click on the "Export Report" icon.
5. Then click the blue "+" icon next to "Reports" and name your report and you can drag and drop the captured views into the report. Note: the drag-and-drop is a bit sensitive so you have to place the view in the 'drop' area until you see it turn grey.
6. When you hover your mouse over the report name, the "PDF" icon will show up for you to click on to generate the report.
