How OrgPublisher's "Windows Authentication" works

Applicable Product:

  • OrgPublisher

Applicable Release:

  • V21.x and later
  • 11.x and earlier

Summary:

OrgPublisher's "Windows Authentication" functionality is not to be confused with how Microsoft Windows authentication works.

Note:  in legacy OrgPublisher (v11.15.13 and earlier), "Windows Authentication" is known as "Active Directory authentication".

This is how OrgPublisher's charts that use its "Windows Authentication" functionality work:

  1. When a user hits the chart URL, the published chart sends a request to the browser to get the AD ID the user used to log into your network.
  2. That AD ID is then sent back to the server, where the chart does a lookup in the data set, in particular, the custom field in which the user ID is stored.
  3. If the user ID is found, then the person is allowed into the chart; otherwise, they will see an "unauthorized" message.
