How to create an roll-up count for Direct and Indirect Reports

Scenario

Management asked if it is possible to have a field showing the total reports a manager has - both direct and indirect.

Answer
To have a roll-up of everyone within a manager's span, you will have to create a field of type "Count" and base it on the "Head Count" population.
Note: the difference between "Head Count" and "Planned Head Count" is that the latter includes open positions.

Additionally, you will have to turn the "Indirect Report" position type's Include in Summary Count setting on:

 

 
In this example, note that the "Head Count" field in Harvey's box shows 5:

 
The reason it's not 6 is because Anthony is a contractor and the "Contractor" position type is set to not be included in summary counts.
