Connecting to sFTP using SSH Key (US)

This guide explains how to use an SSH key with WinSCP for SFTP access. 

 

  1. Paste the key into Notepad/Notepad++ and save it as a .key file on your machine.
  2. Open your FTP Program (WinSCP, FileZilla, etc.) (we will use WinSCP here).
  3. You will see this screen upon opening:

     
  4. For “Host Name”, type in “sftp-us.ltghosting.io”.
  5. For “Username”, type in the username provided
  6. Click Advanced button:
  7. Go to SSH > Authentication:
  8. Disable the following options:
    • Respond with a password to the first prompt
    • Attempt ‘keyboard-interactive’ authentication.
  9. Next to Private Key File, click the 3 dots to open windows file explorer. Make sure to click on the file type drop-down, and select “All Files (*.*)” to see the key file:

  10. Click the key file and click Open.
  11. On the Pop-Up Window, click OK:
  12. Save the .ppk file in the same location.
  13. You will get a pop-up window that says it was converted and saved. Click OK.
  14. Click OK to close the Advanced Site Settings window.
  15. Click Login.
