Problem
Which publishing option is right for me?
Solution
OrgPublisher offers multiple output options for distributing chart content, you will be able to publish non- interactive charts, interactive org charts with an OrgPublisher plugin, and cross-browser interactive org charts.
*Advance Mode publishing allows the chart administrator more configurability options to customize the functionality of the published chart; use this option instead of Express Mode publishing for best results
Non-interactive charts:
These are ideal for printing and have limited capabilities, to publish a static PDF, HTML, or Graphic (gif), select the “Org Chart Document” option in the advance mode publishing wizard.
Interactive charts:
These are the most popular methods of distributing data because of the highly user-friendly, feature rich usability that is supported with interactive charts.
Plugin x: Requires an OrgPublisher plugin x that will only run in a 32-bit Internet Explorer browser
Plugin x is ideal for:
- Most organizations that are charting 5,000 or less records/boxes
- Organizations that do not need to limit features availability to particular users or limit viewing of chart data based on roles
*plugin x only offers the ability to set a single password on the entire chart
Echart: Requires that charts be published on a web server that is ISAPI compliant in order to run DLLs. Echart does support application security.
There are 2 types of Echarts:
Echart Rich: Requires an OrgPublisher plugin x that will only run in a 32-bit browser
Echart Rich is ideal for:
- Large organizations that are charting more than 5,000 records/boxes
- Organizations that require application level security
-Role level: Users only see a certain portion of the hierarchy and can’t drill up to higher portions of the chart
-Data fields: fields can be secured to only be visible in the portion of the chart under the viewer’s hierarchy
-Functionality: this includes the ability to who has access to features such as printing, copying, planning, views… etc.
-Styles: Styles are tabbed views within the same chart that may display different data elements. These can be secured to specific users
Echart Thin: Does not require an OrgPublisher plugin
Echart Thin is ideal for:
- Customers that want an interactive cross-browser viewable chart
*Echart thin can be viewed in virtually any web browser including mobile device browsers, Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla FireFox, and Internet Explorer - Organizations that require application level security
Cross-Browser: Does not require an OrgPublisher plugin
There are 2 types of Cross-browser interactive charts:
Echart Thin- This is the same publishing option found under the “Echart” publishing option
Silverlight: Requires a Microsoft plugin that will run in later versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome, FireFox, and Safari browsers, limitations apply. See http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/locale/en-us/html/installation-win-SL5.html for more details.
Silverlight is ideal for:
- Customers that want an interactive cross-browser viewable chart
- Customers who want a very professional looking chart that only need basic interactive functions such as search, print, and send to PDF; supports less functionality than plugin x or echart rich
iPad: Option is only available under separate licensing and is ideal for organizations that require viewing of org charts on iPad tablets
*Requires a free download for the Apple App store
